Now, after running away from Caduceus with the help of Xaio and Carina, he's trying to start a new life by starting college in America.

She likes to live as invisible as possible to avoid being caught in her illegal ventures. Those who know of her either love her or hate her, depending on whether or not she grants them favors.

Ursula "Ursa" Kirinson

Scorpio is part of Caduceus's security forces. He's a very curious stellar who can synthesize various drugs inside his body and inject them into someone else through needles on his fingers. He himself is immune to most poisons and drugs.

Scorpio is an ex-drug addict from the Martian nation Rojodo. He was committed to an asylum for attempted murder after he lost his mind and tried to bite someone's jugular. Despite his past and his weird abilities, he's now a very likeable man and a constant flirt. When he's in public, he likes to conceal that he's a stellar by going by the name Vlad Aran. Even then, he always has to be the center of attention, and it's clear by his strange dress and flamboyant behavior that he is not at all normal.

Vela
Age: 315 Billion Milliseconds

Vela is one of Carina's ghost. The other ghost is Puppis. They refer to each other as sisters. Vela presents herself as a beautiful young woman dressed in flowing white robes, like the sails of a ship. Her personality is icy, manipulative, and bossy. In the pecking order of Carina's personalities, she is the most commanding and the most creative.

Puppis
Age: 315 Billion Milliseconds

Puppis is Carina's violent ghost. She enjoys fighting and destroying things in the Skiasphere, only to have Vela put them back together. They're like two sides of the coin: destruction and creation. Puppis presents herself like a Bedouin raider, armed with every weapon she can imagine.

Xiao Kirinson
Age: 76

Xaio (pronounced SHY-oh) is the president and majority owner of Caduceus. Xaio inherited majority ownership in the business from his father after he and Xaio's wife, Hoshiko, died in a shuttle crash. Twelve years later, his own daughter Ursula died in a car crash on Earth. Having lost almost everyone he loved, Xaio decided to undertake the impossible -- restore his dying company and his dead daughter.

After much work, his daughter was reborn. But, in truth, the life he had with his daughter before was not as loving as he had wanted it to be. Twenty years of rest and millions of dollars in medical research and reconstruction will not smooth things over between them.

Dr. Erra Staria Ulizio
Age: 65

Erra Ulizio is the inventor of stellar technology, and the metaphorical mother of all stellars. She used to own a cybernetics company of her own on Callisto, until Caduceus bought her out in a hostile takeover orchestrated by Boradai Kandafu. The deal ended up being beneficial for her research, though she still despises Kandafu for his ruthless tactics.

Erra sympathizes with Xaio Kirinson because she also lost a daughter, at a much younger age than Ursa. Erra sees the human body as highly fallible, having seen her ten year old child die of leukemia. Unlike Osman Subramanian, her desire is to cure humanity of all illness, not to create superhuman beings with incredible abilities.

Boradai Kandafu
Age: 53

Kandafu is a very affable scoundrel. He grew up in poverty in Southern India, but managed to climb his way up in the business world, by any means necessary, until he became a good friend to Xaio Kirinson. He was engaged to Xaio's daughter Ursula before she died. After her death, Boradai helped Xaio immensely by becoming the fundraiser for the Polaris Project, the end goal being Ursula's rebirth. He can get money from anyone, including heads of state, and because of Boradai almost every major nation in the System has invested in Caduceus and stellar technology.

Dr. Osman Subramanian (Ophiuchus)

Osman Subramanian is the minority owner of Caduceus, the head of research and development, and an extremely intelligent doctor. He comes from a long bloodline of genetically-engineered geneticists, all the way back to when his great great great great grandfather founded the company with Xaio's ancestor in the 21st century. Because of his tendency to push the limits of stellar technology, Osman has alienated a lot of his patients, in particular Ryan, who has been traumatized by Osman's treatments and fears him intensely.

Still, he doesn't intend to be cruel. He would love to be a powerful stellar like the people he's created. He's even made himself into a stellar, wishing to possess the abilities he's given to them. He honestly doesn't see why people perceive him as mean-spirited, and he's blind to the unhappiness of his poor wife and fellow doctor, Libby.

Aaron Gildner (Aries)

Dr. Aaron Gildner is Caduceus's most brilliant surgeon, surpassing his friend Osman with his ability to operate on the human body. While Osman dreams up new (and strange) methods and designs for the stellars, Gildner actually does the work in implementing those innovations. Though very smart, Gildner has his own demons. After three failed marriages, he has become jaded and discontent with all women. Ever cynical, he doesn't believe any woman can really understand him. Gildner also has a knack for running off his mouth and angering his friends and colleagues. The truth is he knows he's being offensive, he just doesn't care if he offends.

Dr. Huatare Shirogawa (Pisces)

Shirogawa is from an odd people called Oropai, who hail from the Jovian moon Europa, where his family is extremely influential. The elaborate black tattoos all over his body are a sign of wealth and power among the Oropai, though other cultures find them to be wild and bizarre. His mother, Lady Leika Shirogawa, is the younger sister of Xaio's late wife, Hoshiko, and the aunt of Ursa Kirinson, making Xaio Shirogawa's uncle and Ursa Shirogawa's cousin.

Through Leika's influence, Shirogawa became a doctor for Caduceus. Shirogawa is not the best doctor at Caduceus, though. His heart lies in other pursuits, which his mother has forbid him from pursuing. He hides these things away, and comes off excessively gruff and callous to others.

Dr. Cecilia Tang (Cancer)

Dr. Cecilia Tang is a neurologist and psychologist hired by Caduceus late in the Polaris Project. She comes from a rich family in Taiwan, with ties to the Chinese government. She originally pursued a job at Caduceus wishing to work with Osman Subramanian, but later became unimpressed by him. She now works closely with Erra instead.

Cecilia is a beautiful and petite woman, but she's very argumentative and sharp with her colleagues and patients. Yet she has a reputation as a loose and lewd woman, due to rumors disseminated by Gildner. There are truth to these rumors, but Gildner is excessively cruel to Cecilia because of a past relationship between them that ended badly.

Dr. Elizabeth "Libby" Graham (Libra)

Elizabeth "Libby" Graham was doing biological research on artifical life in Nebraska when Osman Subramanian discovered her work. He decided to attend one of her lectures when he was visiting Earth, and became smitten with her. He proposed marriage soon afterward. She accepted, despite protests from her family, who distrusted the strange man from Ganymede.

After their marriage, Libby went to work with Osman on the Polaris Project. The fairy tale did not last, and Libby became disheartened with Osman's insensitivity toward his patients, and his tendency to neglect her at times. Noticing Libby's unhappiness, Erra befriended Libby and asked her to help with her own patients. Libby and Osman's marriage is on shaky ground, and Osman doesn't recognize they have a problem.

Cygna (Cygnus)

Cygna was born with severe health problems traceable to latent defective genes from Caduceus genetic templates on her parents. After her parents died as a teenager, Cygna ran away to the slums of Mardenubis on Luna. She managed to live there over ten years before being found by Osman and Kandafu, who brought her back to the Polaris Project.

Despite Caduceus being responsible for her bad fortune, she does not fault Caduceus for her problems, and is grateful to them for giving her a new life. Cygna's eyes are always closed. She sees instead through her satellite, Albireo, who is always by her side.

Kent Langham (Centaurus)

Kent "Centaur" Langham is the Director of the Io Mining Company, which is owned by Caduceus. Centaur used to be a miner until an accident on the mining ship Hera left him crippled. Xaio Kirinson offered him a chance to join the Polaris Project to restore his health, which Kent accepted, having no other options. After Erra remade him as the stellar Centaur, Kandafu appointed him as the director of the IMC, asking him to improve the companies' operations.

Centaur's competence and charisma in his position has gotten him much praise and gratitude from the people and government of Troy, whose economy relies heavily on mining. He is also a very benevolent and polite man, who never wants to do the wrong thing or offend anyone. Centaur adopted two orphans taken in by Caduceus, Cassie and Jimmy.

Cain
Age: 44

Cain used to live on the savage frontier of the ruins of the Holeyland, until he was ambushed by raiders and left without a family. Kandafu found him homeless in Turkey and impressed him into the Polaris Project. After years of experiments, Cain is very bitter about the experience, and despises his mostly artificial body. He feels he is an inhuman abomination, as all are stellars, and Caduceus should be punished for what they have done.

When Caduceus releases the stellars, Cain tells them that he intended to talk to the media explicitly about the experiments done on him. Cygna, feeling a strange sympathy for Cain, still lets him leave, as long as Auriga watches over him to keep him safe.

Cassie Langham (Cassiopeia)

Cassie Langham is the adopted daughter of Centaur. She's 16 years old. Before she came to Caduceus, she was the seven year old daughter of a miner who worked for Centaur. Her father died, leaving her an orphan, suffering from severe leukemia. At Centaur's request, Xaio took Cassie into the Polaris Project and Erra healed her. Soon afterward, Jimmy came into the picture, and she and Jimmy became like brother and sister.

When the Polaris Project was done, Cassie and Jimmy went to live with Centaur. To make her appear normal, she attends school with other children, but she has a problem fitting in and feels alienated from other teenagers. Over the years, Cassie has developed an obsession with Centaur which at times seems unhealthy.

Jimmy Castor Langham (Gemini)

Jimmy was born with a serious heart disease, which Erra corrected soon after his birth. No one is entirely sure where Jimmy came from, or who his real parents are. Only Erra knows for sure. He was adopted by Centaur, and Cassie, Centaur's other adopted child, is his sister.

Erra gave the child a ghost link, just like Carina. She regretted this after she saw what Carina could do with her ghosts. Instead of removing the ghost and traumatizing Jimmy, Erra had his ghost Pollux trapped behind a firewall in the Skiasphere. Faras is in charge of making sure Pollux remains contained.

Pollux (Gemini)

Pollux is young Jimmy's ghost. He's held captive in a server owned by Caduceus, kept there by Faras who has been charged with watching him. But he wants desperately to get out of the server because he's bored to tears. Faras refuses to let him out, and Pollux resents him for it.

Andy (Andromeda)

Andy 's boyfriend is Leo, and he is very possessive of her. She has a special skill at calming him down when his temper gets out of hand. But secretly she does not love him, she only fears him.

Faras Al-Tayran (Pegasus)

Faras Al-Tayran is part of Caduceus's security forces. He's a relatively weak stellar, but an excellent jet pilot. Before he came to the Polaris Project, he was a pilot for Al-Ahmar, shot down during a war with America on the Martian frontier.

Faras is very apathetic to most people, and tends to come off as an unhappy and unpleasant man. His best friend is Scorpio, who puts up with Faras's antisocial behavior partly because Scorpio finds him attractive. Faras dislikes authority, and often gets in trouble with Nahr and Centaur for not following orders or doing a poor job.

Nahr Al-Bard (Eridanus)

Nahr Al-Bard is the chief of security at Caduceus. He is a stellar himself, and a veteran of the Al-Ankaa military, where he held a very high position among the Mujahideen. He came to the Polaris Project after an assassination attempt nearly took his life.

Since his rebirth as a stellar, he has not sought to return to Al-Ankaa. Instead he chose to teach many of the stellars advanced martial arts and advise Osman on the nature of weapons, knowing that stellars would make excellent soldiers. Nahr is very intrusive with his security methods, and likes to spy on anyone and everybody within the company. He enjoys sitting for many hours in his dark room, staring at a wall of monitors as he peeks into the private lives of others.

Sage is part of Caduceus's security forces, and Ursa's favorite bodyguard. She is very calculating, chosing to stand back and act only when necessary. Most people keep a distance from her, understanding that she's not much for small talk or trifling matters.When Sage does act, she's a very formidable opponent, able to take down most stellars. She's often paired with hot-headed Leo to keep his explosive temper in check.

Leo Paraibo

Leo was a gang member in Rio de Janeiro before he came to the Polaris Project. He was shot in the spine and paralyzed by a rival gang, then beaten savagely almost to the point of dying. Kandafu brought him to Ganymede hoping he could be rehabilitated.

Leo became a very strong stellar, but it didn't change his attitude. He is still very impetuous and violent, starting fights over trivial matters or because he wants to test the strength of other stellars. He enjoyed bullying Ryan specifically, because Ryan refused to fight back. For this reason, Ryan fears Leo almost as much as he fears Osman. There is only one person who can really deter the beast in Leo: his girlfriend, Andy. She can dissuade him from his bad decisions, if she's around.

Auriga

She's very strong and fast, and holds a retractable whip inside her right arm.

Cygna asked Auriga to watch over Cain because Cygna feared he would be a target for extremists. She does a good job of keeping Cain safe from harm, but Cain does not like Auriga at all. He thinks she is vulgar, sadistic, and inhuman. That opinion is not unfounded. Auriga does not offer anyone respect unless they have something to offer her, or if they prove they are stronger than she is.

Aquila

Like Faras, she can fly jets, but she prefers to fight, often trying to match the temper and strength of others. Nahr has tried to smooth out her roughness, but she is too obstinate, and can't overcome her grunt attitude.

Deva "V" Kamila (Virgo)

Deva, who goes by the name V, comes from Saint Petersburg, Russia. She was a horribly burned indigent when Kandafu and Osman found her. Osman decided to replace her skin with a special substance that can change color and grow harder at will, but most of the time looks like normal skin.

V is a party girl who loves to dance and listen to music. She makes use of her skin by creating elaborate tattoo-patterns at will. After leaving Caduceus, she decides to go to Rojodo to try to start her own club and dance all night, every night.

Lara Sevilla (Lyra)

After leaving Ganymede, Lyra chooses to go back to Luna to be an opera singer and artist in Mardeseren, the upscale elite settlement of Luna not far from the slums of Mardenubis.

Tor Jones (Taurus)

But Tor goes by the cliche that he's a lover, not a fighter. He would never fight unless absolutely necessary, even though others like Leo have tried to egg him on. Instead, he tries to woo any good-looking woman he comes across, having learned the skills of courtship from Dr. Gildner.

Drake Tenzen (Draco)

Drake used to be a student of Kung Fu in China, until he got kicked out for being clumsy and inept. He wandered around Tibet for a while until he met Kandafu and Osman by chance. Then he suffered an unfortunate accident and they felt obligated to take him back when the local hospital found a brain tumor.

Erra cured Drake and made him into a stellar, getting rid of his clumsiness. Then Nahr taught him more about martial arts, making him into an excellent fighter. But when Caduceus released Drake, he decided not to stay as part of the security forces, saying that he couldn't stand to be around Leo, Sage, or any of the other security officers.

Drake's best friend is Tor, who doesn't care to fight as much as Drake does. Drake and Tor hope to see the whole system, and maybe get in a few good fights to prove Drake's skill.

Aqua "Aku" Rhyos (Aquarius)

Aqua was an orphan in Rojodo suffering from severe autism that prevented him from communicating with anyone. At the age of 16, Kandafu took him to the Polaris Project, where Caduceus rewired his brain and made him incredibly intelligent.

But even though he has a high IQ, Aqua is not exactly smart. He makes bad decisions and tends to be rude without intending to be rude. Yet he's also extremely lucky, always finding that he can get out of an unfortunate situation with his own good fortune. The reality is that other people keep coming to his rescue.

After being released from Caduceus, Aqua decides to take the money Caduceus gave him and gamble it in casinoes, using his hyper-intelligence and hyper-senses to accurately predict the outcome of any card game. He sees no potential problems with this plan, even as other people try to tell him it's a terrible idea.

Capri (Capricornus)

Capri comes from the Martian frontier, where she lived in an Al-Ahmari settlement trying to terraform and farm the barren land. She almost died when fighting broke out in the settlement, between vigilante Americans from the state of Jefferson and the Al-Ahmari army. She was brought back to the Al-Ahmari capital Nasr, where Kandafu found her and brought her into the Polaris Project.

Capri is a very fickle and salty woman. She's always getting into mischief with her partner in crime, Herc, who almost always does whatever she tells him too, no matter how stupid it might sound. Adding on top of her potential to cause trouble, Osman gave her a special electromagnetic pulse generator that she tends to deploy when she gets very angry. Upon being released by Caduceus, she and Herc swore to behave themselves in public. Unfortunately Capri is also a compulsive liar.

Earnest "Herc" Everest (Hercules)

Earnest "Hercules" Everest came from the Martian frontier, a failed farmer in the state of Jefferson. While trying to pay off his debt, he joined the Jefferson Fight League, where he showed a lot of potential. But he was struck down and paralyzed by his opponent in the ring. Kandafu found him begging on the streets and took him to Ganymede.

Herc is about seven feet tall and 300 pounds, making him the largest and strongest stellar, physically. But he's not very smart. His best friend, Capri, bosses him around, getting him into trouble with her crazy ideas. He means no harm to anyone, and Capri does not have the best intentions, but he continues to do her bidding.

Cettie (Cetus)

Because of her love of the ocean, Osman decided he should give her underwater breathing and other fish-like traits, which now let her dive deep in the sea for hours on end.

Cettie is a very fun loving girl who can be a bit irresponsible, backing down from tasks that look too difficult. After leaving Caduceus, she goes to Earth to do some deep-sea diving.

Sastxa Delaselva lived in the Amazon rainforest preserves for sixty years, part of a primitive tribe of humans planted in the recovering jungle. By late in his life, his wife and children had died, leaving him alone. He decided to see what was outside of the jungle, and ventured to Peru. Unfortunately, he was injured along the way, and lost his arm and his leg to gangrene by the time he reached civilization. Kandafu found him in a hospital and took him into the Polaris Project.

Now 84 years old, Sastxa is the oldest stellar. He's a very kind old man, but still remarkably healthly and lively for his age. He enjoys learning about anything, and debating with other stellars about abstract ideas like philosophy, religion, and ethics, especially if his opponent is Cain.

Perseus is a recovering schizophrenic who tried to commit suicide as a young teenager before coming to Caduceus. He comes from Slovenia, where he lived in an asylum. Now his sanity is relatively better, though he is still a very creepy and has problems talking with other stellars. Due to what he saw as them making fun of him, he has a deep hatred for some people.

His satellite, Algol, resembles Medusa's head. He has drawn a face on it to make it even more hideous. He talks to Algol often, and sometimes it seems like the satellite has a stronger personality than he does.

Rosaline "Rosie" Marcalli
Age: 21

Rosie is a senior a Princeton University. She befriends Ryan Osiros right away because she finds him interesting and attractive, though she is often thrown off by his strange manners and the weird things he says at times.

Lady Leika Shirogawa
Age: 67

Lady Leika Shirogawa is the mother of Huatare Shirogawa, the sister-in-law of Xaio Kirinson, and the aunt of Ursa Kirinson. Xaio married Leika's sister, Hoshiko. Lady Shirogawa is the de facto ruler of Europa, controlling trade for the moon and some of the trade on other Jovian moons. She holds influence over all the Jovian nations. The Shirogawa family is very rich and has ties with several governments back on Earth, particularly China and Japan.

Because of her place, Lady Shirogawa feels very entitled and doesn't tolerate it when she doesn't get her way. One of the few people who can stand up to her is Ursa, who dislikes her intensely for the way Leika treated her as a child.

Annie Kuroyama
Age: 20

Annie is Rosie's best friend, some of the time, when she's not being snobbish. She also attends Princeton University. Annie's family owns several casinos in Atlantic City, which has made her family very rich and infamous in New Jersey.

Commander Suhaila Al-Melaka Al-Ahmar
Age: 52

Suhaila Al-Melaka Al-Ahmar (The Red Queen) is the commander of the Al-Ankaan military. She used to be the commander in Al-Ahmar, but received a promotion after her work in conflicts against the United States on the Martian Frontier. Her people love her, especially in Al-Ahmar, but Americans hate her, holding her up their greatest enemy. And some of her own people hate her almost as, particularly her colleagues in the Al-Ankaan government who find her too extreme.

Her loyal servant is Djibrael, who succeeded her as commander of the Al-Ahmari military. She's also old friends with both Boradai Kandafu and Nahr Al-Bard, having contributed funds for the research of stellar technology in exchange for promises that Al-Ankaa would be able to use the technology for it military.

Djibrael is the commander of the Al-Ahmari military, and loyal to Suhaila, his superior in Al-Ankaa. He does her work on Mars, taking orders from her directly, and from the Emir of Al-Ahmar. He is very polite, but very slick and hard to trust.
